The Kwahu East District is a district of Ghana in the Eastern Region. Its capital is Abetifi. This district is one of the new districts and municipalities which were announced in October 2007,[1] and inaugurated in February 2008 by Ghanaian president, John Kufuor.[2]
The new territorial divisions were inaugurated at their various locations simultaneously on the 29th of February 2008. The President by an Executive Instrument created 27 new Districts, 4 Municipalities, upgraded 26 existing Districts and 2 existing Municipalities.[2]
The towns in Kwahu East district include Aduamoah, Nkwatia, Abetifi (capital), Pepease, Hweehwee, Kwahu-Tafo, Nkwantanan, Kotoso, and Abene Dwerebease. The current District Chief Executive is Samuel Asamoah. There are 18 electoral areas with a total population ranging between 50,000 and 70,000. It has one parliamentary constituency, the Abetifi constituency with Hon. Peter Wiafe Pepra as the Member of Parliament.[2]
